Scramble the Letters FAQ

Practical answers about setup, classroom use and what pupils need to do.

Do short words get scrambled?

No. Set the minimum word length — words below it stay readable, which keeps the task fair.

What does light scramble mean?

Light mode swaps just one pair of letters in each word, so it is noticeably easier than a full shuffle.

Can the first and last letters stay put?

Yes, that is the default — research-friendly, since most readability comes from those letters.
