What's included

Already set up

  • 40% of letters removed at random across the text
  • First and last letters kept visible as a support
  • A cleared blank pattern that avoids giving away the whole word

In the classroom

How to use it

  1. 1

Show the passage and ask pupils to write the completed words.

  2. 2

Ask pupils to underline the trickiest part of each word.

  3. 3

Reveal the original text and compare against the real spellings.

  4. 4

Finish by writing each word once in a sentence of their own.

Teaching notes

Keeping the first and last letters visible turns this into a plausible spelling task rather than a jigsaw. If a pupil still cannot retrieve the word, prompt with the sound rather than the letters — the goal is orthographic memory, not decoding the blanks.
